The mission of the Otwell Art Club is to provide a safe and imaginative space where creative thinkers of all abilities can explore, experiment, and enjoy the artistic process. Each month supplies students with a unique opportunity to create a one-of-a-kind work of art using a variety of different materials and techniques.

Our competition math team is paid for by our school and competes in mathcounts and county events. We will hold our school mathcounts competition in January. The top 12 finishers will move on to the chapter level. The top 10% at the chapter level will move on to state and possibly nationals. The county competitions will include a mathleague competition in October at Shiloh Point Elementary School. The top 20 finishers at this competition will move on to the AMC 10 competition in November. We will also compete in the AMC 8 competition in January at Hendricks Middle school. Our last competition will be the pi fight, which is put on by county. Pi fight happens in April and will be only for our 6^th grade competitors.  There is a $20 membership fee for Math Club.

DECA is a school-based organization focused on preparing students to become leaders, entrepreneurs, and marketing professionals. The Otwell Middle School DECA club offers students a chance to learn about business and marketing through hands-on experiences, work simulations, and even marketing competitions! All 7th and 8th grade students have the opportunity to join DECA at Otwell and make a BIG impact in our school community! Monthly chapter meetings are held before school from 7:30-8:30 a.m. One-off and occasional activities, field trips, and events may be held after school. Members will also be able to participate in community service events, competitions, and staff the Otwell School Store - DAWG-MART.

Setting Expectations for All DECA Students:

For many, DECA is a student’s first experience with membership in a professional organization. We have high expectations for OMS DECA members and expect them to act in a professional manner at all times while participating in DECA activities by adhering to the following standards:

• Present a professional image through appearance, behavior and language.
• Model work-readiness traits required for success in the workplace including integrity, honesty, accountability, punctuality, time management, and respect for diversity.
• Communicate effectively through writing, speaking, listening, reading, and interpersonal abilities.
• Demonstrate creativity by asking challenging questions and applying innovative procedures and methods.
• Exhibit critical thinking and problem-solving skills to locate, analyze and apply information in career planning and employment situations.
• Apply the appropriate skill sets to be productive in a changing, technological, diverse workplace to be able to work independently and apply teamwork skills.

Mrs. Duque – (Room 512) - The OMS Drama Dawgs perform two productions each school year - a play in the fall and a musical in the spring. Students of any grade level can be involved and participation in the productions as a performer is by audition only.  Students can also be selected to assist with sets, costumes, and backstage work.  If a student is in the fall production, that does not guarantee they will be in the spring production -- students will audition for each production.  Commitment to each production is of the utmost importance.  Everyone is welcome to audition for Drama Club Productions!

 Sponsor- Ms. Huichapa  -  In this club we create teams to play video games in a fun and safe competitive environment. Cooperation, strategy,  teamwork, and a willingness to learn are all requirements of being part of this club. The point of this club is to provide students with an experience that will help them better to prepare for the high school teams that are forming all over the county while also creating comradery, and building relationships with other students who have similar interests and might otherwise not participate in competitive team sports.

Open to all grade levels.  Fellowship of Christian Athletes is a club that focuses on serving local communities by equipping, empowering and encouraging people to make a difference for Christ. We meet twice a month on Friday mornings at 7:50 am for a devotional, prayer, games, music, and refreshments. Here is a list of Huddle Dates for the 2026-27 school year.  Throughout the year we work on service projects to benefit our school and community.  All athletes and non-athletes are invited to attend.

FFA is an intracurricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership. It is one of the three components of agricultural education. The National FFA Organization is committed to the individual student, providing a path to achievement in premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

The Relay for Life team will organize fundraisers to support the American Cancer Society and participate in the Relay for Life event in April.

The OMS Competition Robotics Team is a student led competitive team based around the Engineering Design Process used to design, build, and program a robot to be used in competitions around the county, state and country. For the last eight years in a row at least one, with some years more than one, robotics teams have represented Otwell at the World Championships. Please know that the robotics program is an extremely motivated competitive team that is centered around student learning and fielding highly competitive teams for local, state, southeast and world competitions. Students are expected to meet three to four times a week during the season. Dues for the OMS Competition Robotics Team is $225 for the year.  

Students interested in applying for the OMS Competition Robotics Team will need to come and see Mr. Collins in the Engineering Lab to get the application form at either open house or once school starts. Students must ask for applications. Being a student led team, Mr. Collins will not be handing out or emailing applications to parents that ask for their child.  The application must be completed by the students. No parent or AI assistance please. Applications are due to Mr. Collins by 4:31 on Friday, August 14^th.

So that everyone is aware, not all students make the competition robotics team. There are normally around 200 applications for roughly 20~25 new to the program spots. There are normally 60 students in total. Students will be able to check to see if they made the team at the end of the day, during dismissal, on Monday, August 15^th. The list will be posted outside of Mr. Collins’ room.  There will be a mandatory parent meeting at 7:00PM on Thursday, August 20^th in the OMS Engineering Lab for the parents of students that make the team.

Sources of Strength Club is a student-led, adult-supported group that works to build a positive, connected, and resilient school community. Club members promote hope, help-seeking, belonging, and healthy coping by sharing positive messages, leading school-wide campaigns, and strengthening the protective factors that support student well-being. Through peer leadership, students help create a culture where everyone feels seen, supported, and empowered to reach out when they need help.

The STEM SQUAD serves as STEM house leaders, plans house Meetings, creates STEM Challenges, and encourages House Spirit.  All grade levels are welcome!
